The First Rule...

The first rule of Fight Club is you don’t actually use the Fight Club decorative soap!

Although this one smells so absolutely yummy, I might have to break that rule. Don’t think Chewy will mind.

Things are going pretty good over here. I would really appreciate it if someone could please slow the time down for me a bit. I can’t believe I’m six months already…still so much to do!

Jackson is moving like crazy! We’ve been feeling little bumps and kicks pretty regularly for the last month but now we get to see these full on movements from one side of my belly to another. We love watching it and wonder if we’ll ever get tired of it.

Had my first stranger recognize I was pregnant. I was chilling out on a swing at Lowe’s and another woman asked if she could sit down with me. When she sat, she said “Now there’s four of us sitting!” I was thrilled that somebody noticed my little belly. Funny how we spend all these years hoping people won’t notice the little extra weight around your midsection and yet when you get pregnant, you can’t wait for someone to mention your new belly. Women can be so funny, huh?

Started working on the registry over the weekend…ugh. We’re not going to register at one specific store (BRU or Target) and instead set up an online registry with links to a bunch of different places. We are a bit worried about some of the luddites in our lives but we’re hoping they have kids or friends that can help them out. Our friends did this for their shower and it worked out fairly well for them…we’ll see!

You have any suggestions for baby-wearing, cloth-diapering, first time parents? Any must have additions to the registry? I’d love to hear them!

Good luck on the baby registry thing. It is overwhelming at best! I know nothing about cloth diapering but Hannah at Teatopia.net uses cloth and I think she has a long post about her experiences with it. I have two “slings” and a couple of baby carriers. I was most successful with the ring sling and the baby bjorn. But next go-around, I’d like to try some of the back-carriers I’ve seen. My boobs seemed to get in the way of the front pouches working very well. Mothering.com also has a lot of good resources for baby-wearing & cloth diapering.

From my experience: I heart the mei tai. It works as a front, hip,and back carrier. And it is easily adjustable to the Mr. and me without fumbling for fasteners and such. Though I’ve not used the moby wrap, it seems like it would work similar to the mei tai as well.

I also have a pouch sling (and made one for the Mr. since it made to your specific size). I didn’t care for it much in the infant stage b/c I have a bad back and it put too much stress on it for me. However, once the toddler boy reached a sitting up age and was getting too big for the mei tai for me (b/c I’m so short), it worked out wonderfully because he would balance out his weight centrally. We went cherry picking with him in the pouch sling and he loved it! Oh, and you can make one soooo easily. I used these directions: http://www.mykarmababy.com/pages/BabySlingPattern.php

And while the pouch sling wasn’t my cup of tea during the infant stage, it works wonderfully with the Mr. for our 2nd baby. He just puts her in there and walks around rocking her to sleep. He calls it the miracle worker.

As for CDing, we like fitteds and the “easy” pocket diapers and such, but in the end we mostly used the standard prefold, snappis, and covers. Don’t buy the Gerber brand ones–no good. We have Chinese Premium Prefolds and Indian Premium Prefolds. The CPFs are very durable but the IPFs are so soft. It’s a toss up really on which we prefer. Plus, when your done using them, they become absorbent lint-free cleaning rags–always useful. Our favorite cover is the Prorap–economical and a great fit. Oh, and for overnight/naptimes we use wool covers.

We get our prefolds here: http://www.little-lions.com

Whew! Was that more information than you needed? Just got on a roll… ;)

my advice? 1. invest in stain remover. 2. over estimate the number of diapers you’ll need each day no matter what the books say.
